“Safeguarding Society Through Environmental Sustainability”

Our Environmental Principles

DO NOT HARM

TTRCS will strive to prevent any unintended social or environmental impacts from its humanitarian activities and will actively work to safeguard the environment.

DO BETTER

Our environmental program will not only focus on protection but also incorporate initiatives to actively restore the environment, address economic inefficiencies that contribute to pollution, and promote the development of an environmentally responsible society.

DO WELL

Our environmental program will prioritize actions that provide financial benefits to the TTRCS, while ensuring minimal impact on the vulnerable individuals they serve, to uphold the organization's independence and sustainability as much as feasible.

TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF OUR ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES.

Rainwater Harvesting

In areas lacking a reliable water source, our rainwater harvesting systems provide an innovative solution. These systems collect, filter, and decontaminate rainwater, making it safe for drinking. Any excess is utilized as “greywater” for everyday household use, ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply for your home.

Hydroponics Systems

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil by using a nutrient-rich water solution instead.

Our Tobago branch has implemented a Hydroponics system that offers several advantages for educating the public on growing food at home, particularly with limited resources.

Some of these advantages include:

  • Water Efficiency: Hydroponic systems use significantly less water than traditional soil-based gardening. This efficiency is critical in regions facing water shortages or where water conservation is a concern.

  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: Hydroponic systems can be adapted to various levels of expertise and physical abilities. They can be designed to be accessible to people with disabilities or those who have limited mobility, fostering inclusivity in gardening and food production.

  • Sustainability: Hydroponic systems typically use fewer pesticides and herbicides compared to traditional farming methods. This reduction in chemical usage can highlight the benefits of sustainable agriculture practices and encourage environmentally conscious behaviors.

  • Community Building: Hydroponics can be a focal point for community gardens or educational programs, fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge among participants. This communal aspect can strengthen local communities and promote a culture of sharing resources and skills.

  • Space Utilization:  Hydroponics allows for vertical farming and compact setups, making it suitable for urban environments or small living spaces. Educating the public on vertical gardening techniques can show how even a balcony or small indoor area can be used effectively for food production.

Environmental conservation is paramount to the TTRCS and our vision to a sustainable and secure future for Trinidad and Tobago.
